Where Are Minecraft Dungeons II Save Files Located?
Dungeons II saves under AppData\Local\Dungeons2 on Steam, but Game Pass builds keep them in a sandboxed Packages folder.
Last updated
Minecraft Dungeons II changed the rules from the first game. The 2020 Dungeons kept saves in %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Mojang Studios\Dungeons, but the sequel writes to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Dungeons2\Saved\SaveGames, the Unreal-style tree most Steam games use.
The Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass builds are sandboxed into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages, inside a wgs folder with per-character subfolders. That sandbox is why Game Pass saves are awkward to back up and why most transfer guides only cover the Steam version. Characters are account-bound either way, so file copying is only half of the story when moving between versions.
Where Minecraft Dungeons II stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Dungeons2\Saved\SaveGames
Steam and standalone builds. Settings live in the sibling Config\Windows folder. The folder appears after your first save, not at install time.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftDungeons2_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs
Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass builds. Each subfolder under wgs is a container with a per-user ID and character data inside. Copyable, but verify with a test character before trusting a backup.
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1912410/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Dungeons2/Saved/SaveGames
The same Steam tree inside the Proton prefix for app ID 1912410 on Steam Deck.
Frequently asked questions
Where are Minecraft Dungeons II saves on PC?
Steam: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Dungeons2\Saved\SaveGames. Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass: inside %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftDungeons2_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs.
Why is there no Saved Games\Mojang Studios folder this time?
The sequel switched conventions. The first Minecraft Dungeons used Saved Games\Mojang Studios\Dungeons; Dungeons II uses AppData\Local\Dungeons2. Guides written for the 2020 game point at the old folder.
Can I move a character between the Steam and Game Pass versions?
Not by copying folders. Characters are tied to your Microsoft account, so use the in-game character upload and download on the character select screen with the same account signed in on both copies.
