Where Does Minecraft Quilt Store Mods and Config?
Quilt loader mods and config paths on Windows, macOS and Linux, and what changes when migrating from Fabric.
Last updated
Quilt grew out of the Fabric ecosystem and the on disk layout shows it. Mods live in the familiar mods folder inside .minecraft, settings in config, and the loader under versions with org.quiltmc in the path. If you know Fabric, you already know where everything is.
The difference is the toolchain. Quilt runs on the Quilt Standard Libraries plus the Quilted Fabric API for compatibility, so a fresh install needs those libraries before any content mod will load. Copying a Fabric mods folder across works once the libraries are in place.
Where Minecraft Quilt stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\.minecraft\mods
Paste %APPDATA%\.minecraft into the Explorer address bar. The loader entry under versions carries org.quiltmc in its name, which is the quickest way to confirm a profile is Quilt and not Fabric.
~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods
Use Go to Folder in Finder. Everything mirrors the Windows layout, including the config sibling where Quilted mods keep their settings.
~/.minecraft/mods
Show hidden files to see it. This is the vanilla launcher layout; Prism and other launchers isolate each instance in their own folder instead.
Frequently asked questions
Do Fabric mods run on Quilt?
Many do, through the Quilted Fabric API compatibility layer. Install QFAPI and QSL alongside the mod. Anything touching deep Fabric internals may still refuse, so keep a Fabric profile around for stubborn cases.
Can I reuse my Fabric mods folder for Quilt?
Yes. Quilt reads the same mods folder and config layout for compatible mods, so migration is mostly installing the Quilt loader and the QSL and QFAPI libraries, then copying the folder contents over.
