Where Does NordVPN Store Logs and Settings?

NordVPN diagnostics on Windows and settings plus log level paths on Linux.

Last updated

NordVPN funnels troubleshooting through its diagnostics flow rather than raw log folders. On Windows the app collects a zip through the help section, falling back to a Diagnostics directory under Program Files when sending fails.

Linux exposes more directly. Settings live in a system data file plus a user config tree, and log verbosity flips at runtime through a run directory file without restarting daemons.

Where NordVPN stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files\NordVPN\Diagnostics

Manual fallback when the in-app Run diagnostics send fails. Explorer opens here automatically. Preferred flow is app > question mark > Run diagnostics > Collect diagnostics, then hand support the reference number.

Linux
/var/lib/nordvpn/data/settings.dat

System settings file. User tree at ~/.config/nordvpn. Reset both with sudo rm on settings.dat plus rm -rf ~/.config/nordvpn. Daemon log level at /run/nordvpn/loglevel. CLI bundle via nordvpn diagnostics.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reset NordVPN settings on Linux?

Remove /var/lib/nordvpn/data/settings.dat with sudo plus ~/.config/nordvpn, then log in again. That clears preferences without touching the install.

Do NordVPN logs record browsing?

No. Diagnostics capture connection steps, server handshakes and app errors only. Share the zip with support freely, but still avoid posting it publicly since it carries system details.
