Where Does NotePlan Store Notes?
NotePlan stores notes as plain Markdown inside its sandbox container on Mac and the NotePlan folder on iOS.

NotePlan notes are plain Markdown files, which makes backup gloriously simple: copy a folder. On Mac the folder hides inside the app's sandbox container. On iOS it sits in the Files app under On My iPhone or iCloud Drive depending on your sync mode.
The fastest way to find it is inside NotePlan itself. Open any note, hit the ... menu, and choose Show in Finder. For scripted access the container path below is stable across launches, with the Setapp edition using its own sibling folder.
Where NotePlan stores this, by platform
~/Library/Containers/co.noteplan.NotePlan3/Data/Library/Application Support/co.noteplan.NotePlan3
App Store edition with Calendar, Notes, Plugins, and Themes subfolders. Setapp uses co.noteplan.NotePlan-setapp in the same parent. iCloud Drive sync keeps a NotePlan folder copy too. Copy the whole folder with NotePlan closed to back up.
Files app > On My iPhone/iPad > NotePlan
Local notes when sync is off. With iCloud Drive sync look under iCloud Drive > NotePlan instead. Deleting the app deletes the local folder, though CloudKit re-downloads on reinstall. Copy or compress the folder in Files for a manual backup.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up NotePlan?
On Mac use File, Create Full Backup, or copy the container folder above somewhere safe. On iOS copy the NotePlan folder in Files. To restore, quit NotePlan everywhere, empty the live folder, copy the backup in, and relaunch one device first.
Can I sync NotePlan with git instead of iCloud?
Yes. Set sync to No Sync, turn the Application Support folder into a git repo named co.noteplan.NotePlan3, and commit. Ignore the cache-like subfolders or they will conflict endlessly. This is an advanced setup but it works.
