Where Does UpNote Store Backups?

UpNote's automatic local backup folder you choose yourself plus export options per OS.

Last updated

UpNote syncs through Firebase but backs up locally on desktop. Automatic backups run daily by default and keep 50 days, including attachments if you enable them. The folder is one you pick in Settings Backup, so it can sit inside Dropbox or Drive for off machine redundancy.

Live note content otherwise lives in private app storage and sync state, not in a user friendly folder of .md files. For portable copies, use Export all notes or point the backup folder somewhere you control.

Where UpNote stores this, by platform

Windows
[ChosenFolder]\UpNote backups

Set via Settings > Backup > Select backup folder. Files are UpNote managed, so do not hand edit them. Export all notes via Settings > General for a separate Markdown or PDF archive.

macOS
[ChosenFolder]/UpNote backups

Same Settings > Backup flow. Mobile only users should sign into desktop once and leave it online so sync feeds the desktop backup set.

Linux
[ChosenFolder]/UpNote backups

Same automatic backup coverage as Windows and Mac. Tune frequency, retention, attachments and Markdown export under Settings > Backup.

Frequently asked questions

Does UpNote store notes as files I can browse?

No. Day to day storage is app private plus Firebase sync. The browsable copies are the automatic backups and manual exports you generate yourself.

How do I get cloud redundancy for UpNote backups?

Point the backup folder into Dropbox or Google Drive with Select backup folder. UpNote keeps writing locally and the sync client uploads the results.
