Where Are Observer Save Files Located?
Observer SaveGames under TheObserver on Windows and Linux, the key bindings file, and the Redux split.
Last updated
The original Observer files saves under a folder called TheObserver, the internal project name, which is why searching for Observer finds nothing. Inside sits the familiar Unreal split with SaveGames for progress and Config for settings.
Key bindings live in PlayerPreferences.sav inside SaveGames rather than the config tree, so wiping settings costs your keys too. Linux uses an Epic folder in home config with the same interior. System Redux is a separate remake with its own folder; never mix the two.
Where Observer stores this, by platform
%localappdata%\TheObserver\Saved\SaveGames
TheObserver is the internal project name, not a typo. PlayerPreferences.sav inside holds key bindings. Engine config sits in Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor beside it.
~/.config/Epic/TheObserver/Saved/SaveGames
Same Unreal interior under a fixed Epic folder, ignoring XDG_CONFIG_HOME. Config sits in Saved\Config\LinuxNoEditor beside saves.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I find an Observer folder in AppData?
The game files its data under TheObserver, its development codename. Paste %localappdata%\TheObserver into the Run dialog and you land straight in it.
Do Observer and Observer System Redux share saves?
No. The remake keeps its own folder with no importer between the versions. Back up and restore each one on its own.
