Where Are People Playground Contraptions and Saves Located?
Where People Playground keeps contraptions, saves and config on PC, and how Steam Play handles them on Linux.
Last updated
People Playground does not use AppData for saves. Everything lives beside the game itself: a Contraptions folder for your builds, plus config.json, ControlScheme.json and a stats file for settings. That surprises people who look in LocalLow first.
Steam Cloud covers the game, but Workshop items are separate. The easiest backup is a copy of the install folder's Contraptions directory with the game closed. On Linux through Proton the same tree appears under the compatdata prefix for app 1118200.
Where People Playground stores this, by platform
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\People Playground\Contraptions
Contraptions subfolder holds your builds. Config and key bindings sit beside it as config.json and ControlScheme.json. Copy with the game closed; running writes can corrupt a build.
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1118200/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/People Playground/Contraptions
Same install relative layout under Proton. Replace <SteamLibrary> with your library path. Workshop content for app 1118200 mirrors here when subscriptions are installed.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move People Playground contraptions to a new PC?
Copy the whole Contraptions folder plus config.json and ControlScheme.json with the game closed. Workshop subscriptions live separately under steamapps workshop content 1118200, so resubscribe on the new machine first.
Does Steam Cloud cover my contraptions?
Yes for the base game. Workshop contraptions need their subscriptions present. If a contraption references a missing mod or game version, it can fail to load even when the file copied fine.
