Where Does Polypane Store Settings and Workspaces?
Where Polypane keeps settings, workspaces and cache on Windows, Mac and Linux, and how to migrate them safely.
Last updated
Polypane is an Electron app, so it uses the standard per OS user data folder. Preferences, workspaces, window state and cache all sit under one parent named for the app. The structure matches other Electron browsers, which helps when you already know where those live.
Copying that parent moves almost everything at once. The account sign in restores cloud items, but local workspaces only travel with the folder. Clear only the cache subfolders when the UI feels sluggish, since wiping the whole parent logs you out everywhere.
Where Polypane stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Polypane
Electron user data with Preferences, Local Storage and cache subfolders. Close the app before copying so LevelDB files are not mid-write.
~/Library/Application Support/Polypane
Same Electron layout under Application Support. Use Finder Go to Folder to reach it. Workspaces and outlines copy with the parent.
~/.config/Polypane
Same layout under XDG config. Respects a custom XDG_CONFIG_HOME when set. Copy the whole folder to migrate between Linux machines.
Frequently asked questions
How do I migrate Polypane workspaces to a new machine?
Close Polypane and copy its config folder elsewhere. Workspaces and preferences come back when you restore it before launch. Signed in account data resyncs, local files need the copy.
Polypane runs slow. How do I clear its cache safely?
Delete the Cache or Code Cache subfolder inside the Polypane data directory while the app is closed. Settings stay in Preferences and Local Storage, so a cache clear leaves workspaces alone.
