Where Does Psi Store Profiles and Chat History?
Psi keeps profiles, history, and settings in AppData on Windows and ~/.config/psi+ on Linux.
Last updated
Psi and Psi+ store each identity as a profile folder with account settings, contact lists, and XML chat history. Windows builds use %AppData%/Psi+, Linux builds use ~/.config/psi+ (very old ones used ~/.psi+). Portable builds keep profiles beside the exe.
Back up the whole profile tree with Psi closed. History files are plain XML per contact, so single chats restore by copying individual files. OMEMO keys travel with the profile, keep the backup encrypted.
Where Psi stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[You]\AppData\Roaming\Psi+
Profiles with history and settings. Portable mode uses profiles beside psi.exe instead. Copy the matching tree for your install type.
~/.config/psi+
Same profile layout. Ancient installs may still use ~/.psi+. Keep ownership fixed when restoring as another user.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Psi+ to a new computer?
Copy the profile folder to the matching path on the new machine and launch. Reconnect each account once. OMEMO sessions usually resume without re-verifying.
Where is a single chat log in Psi+?
Inside the profile history folder as XML per contact. Copy that file to merge one conversation. Keep filenames unchanged or the index misses them.
