Where Does QNAP QTS Store Shared Folders?
QNAP QTS exposes each shared folder under /share. System settings live in /etc/config, which survives reboots and upgrades.
Last updated
QNAP QTS presents every shared folder under /share/<name>, regardless of which volume or RAID group backs it. The real blocks sit under /share/CACHEDEV*_DATA/<name>, with /share as the stable access path. Default shares (Download, Multimedia, Public, Web) follow the same scheme and cannot be deleted, only repurposed.
System configuration is the second half. Network, users, services, and scheduled tasks persist in /etc/config, the one etc location QTS preserves across reboots and firmware upgrades. Custom scripts belong there too. Anything else you hand edit under /etc vanishes on reboot, which is the classic reason a QNAP tweak works once and never again.
Where QNAP stores this, by platform
/share/<sharename> (QTS)
Stable access path per share; storage blocks underneath at /share/CACHEDEV*_DATA/<name>. Defaults (Download, Multimedia, Public, Web) cannot be deleted. System config persists in /etc/config, not elsewhere under /etc.
Frequently asked questions
how do i migrate qnap shared folders
Recreate a shared folder with the exact same name and the data reappears (unless you ticked delete data on removal). For full moves, copy /share/CACHEDEV*_DATA/<name> with permissions, or replicate through Hybrid Backup Sync.
what are the default qnap shared folders
Download, Multimedia, Public, and Web. QTS creates them automatically and they cannot be deleted. Point Download Station, media apps, and the web server at these defaults instead of fighting them.
