Where Does Revolt Store Local Data?

Revolt desktop session data on every OS, and why deleting it only logs you out.

Last updated

The Revolt desktop app is Electron, so local state follows the platform userData home: %APPDATA%\Revolt on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/Revolt on Mac, ~/.config/Revolt on Linux (Flatpak sandboxes under its app ID). It holds Chromium session data, caches and login tokens.

Every message lives server side, so wiping these folders logs you out and clears cache without deleting a single message. Web only users have no Revolt folder at all: state sits in browser localStorage per origin, cleared as site data. Corrupt sessions fix the same way: uninstall, delete the folder, reinstall clean.

Where Revolt stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Revolt\

Electron userData: session, Cache, GPUCache, Local Storage, token cache. Delete after uninstall for a clean reinstall. Messages are server side; this only logs you out.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Revolt/

Same Electron state as Windows. Drag the app to Trash, delete this folder, reinstall for a clean session. Web use leaves no folder behind.

Linux
~/.config/Revolt/

Standard Electron default (Flatpak base ~/.var/app/chat.revolt.RevoltDesktop, exact subpath may vary). Same logout only semantics as other OSes.

Frequently asked questions

Will deleting the Revolt folder erase my messages?

No. Messages live on Revolt servers; local data holds session and cache only. Deleting logs you out and clears glitches, then logging in restores everything.

I only use Revolt in the browser. Where is its data?

In browser storage for app.revolt.chat (localStorage, IndexedDB, cache). Clear it as site data in browser settings; there is no desktop folder to find.
