Where Are Rocksmith 2014 Save Files Located?

Where Rocksmith 2014 keeps profiles and settings on Windows and Mac, including the Steam remote folder.

Last updated

Rocksmith 2014 follows Steam rules. Profiles, settings, and learned songs live under the Steam userdata folder for app 221680, in a remote subfolder with .sav files. The long number before 221680 is your Steam account ID, so it differs per user. The game install folder holds DLC and custom songs separately.

Mac mirrors the same layout under the Steam Application Support path. The profile files carry progress and arrangements. Settings live beside them. If progress resets after a reinstall, the usual cause is signing into a different Steam account, which changes the userdata number and points the game at a fresh empty folder.

Where Rocksmith 2014 stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[ID]\221680\remote

Profiles are .sav files in the remote folder for app 221680. Replace [ID] with your Steam account number. DLC in steamapps\common\Rocksmith2014 does not live here.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/userdata/[ID]/221680/remote

Same 221680 remote layout under Steam support files. Copy the whole 221680 folder with Steam closed. Verify the account ID folder first if you have multiple logins.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Rocksmith 2014 progress?

Copy the remote folder with the .sav profile files to the same Steam userdata path, with Steam closed. Log into the same account so the numeric ID matches. DLC redownloads from Steam, so you only need the saves, not the whole game folder.

Does Rocksmith 2014 use Steam Cloud?

Yes for profiles and settings, since they sit under userdata for app 221680. Custom DLC in the game install folder does not sync and must be moved by hand. Turn off cloud before modding, or Steam may overwrite your edited files with the server copy.
