Where Is the Rofi Config File?
Rofi reads config.rasi plus themes from its XDG folder. The exact Linux path and the dump commands that create it.
Last updated
Rofi looks for ~/.config/rofi/config.rasi. That one file holds the configuration block plus an optional theme import. Custom themes resolve from ~/.config/rofi/themes first, then the config dir itself.
The file may not exist until you create it. Run rofi -dump-config to print the full commented defaults and redirect that into config.rasi as a starting point. rofi -dump-theme does the same for the active theme. Imports can nest, so a small config.rasi can pull in shared chunks.
Where Rofi stores this, by platform
~/.config/rofi/config.rasi
Main config; honors $XDG_CONFIG_HOME. Generate it with rofi -dump-config > ~/.config/rofi/config.rasi. Themes live in the themes subfolder with the .rasi extension.
Frequently asked questions
rofi has no config file, what do i do
That is normal on a fresh install. Create ~/.config/rofi, then run rofi -dump-config > ~/.config/rofi/config.rasi. Edit the result; Rofi reads it on every launch with no daemon to restart.
where do rofi themes go
Put .rasi theme files in ~/.config/rofi/themes or directly beside config.rasi, then reference them with @theme. The bundled examples ship under /usr/share/rofi/themes on packaged installs.
