Where Does Ulauncher Store Settings and Extensions?

Ulauncher keeps settings.json, themes, and extensions in ~/.config/ulauncher on Linux systems.

Last updated

Ulauncher stores preferences in settings.json under ~/.config/ulauncher, with extensions and themes in subfolders beside it. That tree is the full backup unit.

Extension code comes from their own repos or the extensions site. Copying the folder moves them, but reinstall from source when Python versions differ. Preferences reference hotkeys that may clash with the desktop.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up Ulauncher shortcuts?

Copy ~/.config/ulauncher whole, which holds custom shortcuts and extensions. Note the hotkey separately in case the new desktop grabs it.

Where are Ulauncher extensions installed?

In the extensions subfolder of the same config tree. Prefer reinstalling over copying when moving between distros.
