Where Does SAS.Planet Store Settings and Cache?
Where SAS.Planet keeps its ini settings, maps and tile cache, and why the whole app backs up as one folder.
Last updated
SAS.Planet is fully portable by design. Everything lives inside the folder you unpacked, next to the exe. Settings sit in an ini file at the root. Maps sit in a Maps subfolder as versioned packages. Tiles accumulate in a cache tree beside them.
There is no AppData copy and no registry state that matters. That makes backup trivial and updates safe: new builds reuse the same folder in place. Avoid unpacking into system paths where permissions block tile writes. Placemark icons and track logs sit beside the cache, so the folder doubles as the full field archive.
Where SAS.Planet stores this, by platform
[InstallFolder]\SASPlanet.ini
Portable root with SASPlanet.ini, Maps, cache and placemarks beside the exe. No AppData or registry copy. Back up the whole folder with the app closed.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up SAS.Planet?
Copy the entire install folder to the new machine or drive. Settings, placemarks, maps and cache all live next to the exe, so nothing outside needs collecting. Keep the app closed during the copy to avoid half written cache files.
How do I add or repair maps in SAS.Planet?
Drop or refresh the versioned map folders under the Maps directory and check the readme there for format notes. Maps never install to AppData, so a missing map always means a missing folder next to the exe, not a broken registry key.
