Where Does Shotcut Store Settings and Projects?
Shotcut config files on Windows and Linux with presets, recent projects and autosaves.
Last updated
Shotcut keeps settings, filter presets and recent-project lists in small INI-style config files under the Meltytech vendor folder. Project files themselves are .mlt XML saved wherever you put them.
Autosaves land next to the config, which rescues edits after a crash. Copy the config folder and your presets plus layout survive a reinstall.
Where Shotcut stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Meltytech\Shotcut.ini
Main settings file with presets, recent projects and autosave references nearby. Project .mlt files live wherever you saved them, independent of this config. Copy the Meltytech folder with Shotcut closed.
~/.config/Meltytech/Shotcut.conf
Same role as the Windows INI. Back up the Meltytech folder to carry presets and history to a new machine.
Frequently asked questions
Where are Shotcut autosaves?
Next to the config files above. Reopen Shotcut after a crash and it offers to restore the newest autosave.
How do I transfer Shotcut presets to a new PC?
Copy the Meltytech config folder to the same spot on the new machine. Project .mlt files move separately since they live with your media.
