Where Does Square POS Store Sales and Catalog Data?

Where Square POS keeps offline sales data on Android and iPhone, and what actually syncs to the cloud.

Last updated

Square POS keeps the register state in the cloud and a queue locally. Catalogs, taxes, and staff permissions download from your Square Dashboard. Completed sales upload when online. Offline payments sit in a protected queue inside private app storage until the connection returns.

You cannot browse that queue with a file manager on a normal phone. Android keeps it under the app private data directory, iPhone inside the app container. Both require root or jailbreak to read directly, which is by design for payment data. Treat the Dashboard as the backup, not the phone storage.

Where Square POS stores this, by platform

Android
/data/data/com.squareup.register (private, plus Dashboard cloud)

Sales queue and catalog cache live in private storage at /data/data/com.squareup.register. You cannot open this without root. Media and receipts sync to your Square Dashboard cloud account.

iOS
On My iPhone/Square (container, plus Dashboard cloud)

Data lives in the app container under com.squareup.register. Offline sales upload on reconnect. Use the Dashboard Transactions page to verify, and avoid offloading the app with pending sales.

Frequently asked questions

Do offline Square sales survive without internet?

Reconnect and open the app, since queued sales upload on their own. Check Transactions in the Dashboard to confirm. The local queue is in private app storage you cannot browse, so do not clear app data while offline sales are pending or they are gone.

Where are my product photos stored?

Product photos and catalogs cache inside private app storage. Item images also sync from the cloud catalog, so re-downloading them is usually faster than hunting files. For a full device move, sign in on the new device and let the catalog sync instead of copying app folders.
