Where Are Starsector Save Files Located?

Starsector keeps campaigns in a saves folder inside its own install directory, far from AppData or Documents. Each campaign gets a subfolder, and settings live nearby in the core data tree.
Program Files installs without admin rights trigger VirtualStore redirects, which split saves across two locations. Point the game elsewhere or run elevated, and the fleet stays in one harbor.

Inside the install folder, starting from wherever you installed the game. Without admin rights Windows may redirect to VirtualStore instead. Config sits nearby under starsector-core\data\config\settings.json.
Frequently asked questions
Why are my Starsector saves in VirtualStore?
Windows redirects writes there when the game cannot write to Program Files. Move the install out of Program Files so saves land in the real folder.
Does Starsector use Steam Cloud?
No. The game sells outside Steam with local only storage. Manual copies of the saves folder are the entire backup strategy.
