Where Does SteelSeries GG Store Profiles and Settings?

SteelSeries GG Engine database, Sonar profiles and client settings folders on Windows, and what to copy.

Last updated

SteelSeries GG splits its data across two roots. Device configs, Sonar audio profiles and the install GUID live under ProgramData, while the GG client UI settings sit in Roaming AppData. Both are hidden by default, which is why full drive searches miss them.

Profiles also sync to the SteelSeries cloud when you sign in, but local files remain the reliable backup unit. Copy folders with GG fully closed, since the Engine database is a live SQLite store that tears when copied mid write.

Where SteelSeries GG stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\ProgramData\SteelSeries\GG

Engine configs sit in GG\apps\engine\db, Sonar presets in GG\apps\sonar\db, and your install GUID in GG\guid.json. Client side settings live separately in %APPDATA%\steelseries-gg-client. Show hidden items to browse ProgramData in Explorer.

Frequently asked questions

which files back up my steelseries engine configs

Copy database.db-shm, database.db-wal and dbconf.yml from the engine db folder with GG closed. Those three files carry Engine device configs. Sonar equalizer presets live separately under apps\sonar\db.

how do i move my sonar eq presets to a new pc

Copy the whole db file from ProgramData\SteelSeries\GG\apps\sonar\db to the new machine. There is no export button for Sonar presets, so the folder copy is the supported community route.
