Where Does Substance Painter Save Projects?
Substance Painter saves .spp projects where you choose, with autosaves beside the file or in Documents Adobe folders.
Last updated
Substance 3D Painter writes .spp projects wherever you save them. No central projects folder exists. Autosave drops copies next to the saved project. Untitled work that never got a name goes to Documents under Adobe then Adobe Substance 3D Painter then autosave instead.
Custom shelves follow the same Documents root. Brushes, smart materials, and export presets you make land in Documents then Adobe then Adobe Substance 3D Painter. Preferences and logs sit in AppData or Library. Keep all three in mind when migrating.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the Substance Painter autosave folder?
Beside your .spp file when the project has a name. Untitled projects use Documents, Adobe, Adobe Substance 3D Painter, autosave. Turn on the Autosave plugin and set the interval under Plugins and Autosave and Configure.
How do I move Substance Painter shelves to a new machine?
Copy the Documents Adobe subtree above plus any custom library paths you added. Do not pull Starter assets from the install folder since updates overwrite them. Re link custom paths in the Libraries panel after moving.
