Where Does Surespot Store Identity and Messages?

Surespot identity lives as a key on your device, with messages held server-side only until delivered.

Last updated

Surespot has no passwords and no account recovery. Your identity is a key pair generated on the device, and the server cannot reissue it.

Messages wait on the server only until every device collects them, then they are deleted there. The durable copies are your on-device history and the identity backup file you export yourself. Back up the identity before you need it, because afterward is too late by design.

Where Surespot stores this, by platform

Android
App-private identity + history; in-app backup file

Identity key and message history live here. Export the identity backup through the app and store it off-device. Server copies are transient by design.

iOS
App-private identity + history; in-app backup file

Same device-bound identity model. Back up through the app before switching phones; Apple backups alone may not carry the identity across.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Surespot to a new phone?

Run the in-app identity backup with a strong password and store the file off the phone. New installs restore from that file; without it the identity is unrecoverable.
