Where Does SwitchResX Store Settings on Mac?
SwitchResX keeps display sets in fr.madrau plist files under ~/Library/Preferences, plus layout files.
Last updated
SwitchResX stores settings in three plist files under Library Preferences. The daemon file holds core behavior. The app file holds custom resolutions. The layout file holds icon and window positions.
System-wide resolution overrides live separately under Displays Overrides. Copy the plist trio for normal moves. Touch Overrides only when custom timings misbehave, since mistakes there affect every display.
Where SwitchResX stores this, by platform
~/Library/Preferences/fr.madrau.switchresx.daemon.plist (plus app and layout plists)
Daemon, app and layout plists in Preferences. Custom resolutions in the app plist. Copy all three with SwitchResX closed. Overrides folder is separate.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move SwitchResX settings?
Copy the three fr.madrau plist files to the same Preferences path with SwitchResX closed. Display sets and custom resolutions travel together. Reopen once to confirm before wiping the old Mac.
Settings will not save. What fixes it?
Delete the daemon and app plist files and start over. Corrupt prefs cause most save failures after the trial window. Factory defaults in the app clear custom timings too.
