Where Does Tixati Store Settings and Transfers?

Tixati keeps transfers and settings in small .dat files in one config folder. Locations on Windows and Linux, plus migration steps.

Last updated

Tixati tracks everything in a folder of small .dat files: transfer names, hashes, settings, the lot. The .torrent file is only needed once at add time. After that the metadata lives in Tixati's own files, so keep that folder safe.

There is a documented order of overrides on Linux, from command flags down to environment variables. Check for a legacy ~/.tixati folder first on old installs, since newer versions prefer ~/.config/tixati. For a clean move, use Settings > Import/Export inside the app. It beats hand-copying when download paths must match anyway.

Where Tixati stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\tixati

The .dat settings files. Paste %APPDATA%\tixati into Explorer's address bar to jump there, since AppData hides by default. Portable installs keep config beside the executable instead.

Linux
~/.config/tixati

Default since version 2.87, with full backward support for an existing ~/.tixati. Override with --user-data-dir, TIXATI_USER_DATA_DIR, TIXATI_CONFIG_HOME or XDG_CONFIG_HOME, in that order.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Tixati to a new computer?

Stop all transfers, then use Settings > Import/Export > Export Configuration To File and save the .tixaticonfig somewhere safe. On the new machine install Tixati, import that file, and keep download paths identical so files verify instead of redownloading.

Where does Tixati keep incomplete downloads?

In the incomplete-pieces location set under Settings > Transfer > Locations. That is separate from the config folder above. Move its contents along with your finished downloads when migrating drives.
