Where Does Torrential Store Torrents on Linux?

Where the Torrential app keeps torrents, settings and downloads on Linux for backup and migration.

Last updated

Torrential splits state two ways on elementary OS and other Linux desktops: options in dconf under its app id, and torrent files with resume state in a data folder. Finished downloads land in a directory you choose.

Back up data plus dconf for a full move; downloads copy like any folder. Stop transfers before copying so resume state writes cleanly. Flatpak installs relocate the data parent under the sandbox path.

Where Torrential stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.local/share/io.elementary.torrential

Torrents and resume state in the app data folder, options in dconf. Flatpak builds relocate under the sandbox. Stop transfers before copying.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Torrential to a new install?

Close Torrential and copy its data folder plus the download directory. Settings travel in dconf, torrents and resume state in data. Downloads themselves need their own copy for seeding.

Where does Torrential save files by default?

Open Settings inside Torrential and read the download folder. Defaults point under home Downloads, but the field always shows the live path. The dconf branch holds the rest of the options.
