Where Do Unity Games Store Save Files?
Where Unity games keep saves: LocalLow on Windows, Application Support on macOS, unity3d on Linux, named after the developer.
Last updated
Thousands of games and apps are built in Unity, and they share one default place for saves. Unity calls it Application.persistentDataPath: a folder assembled from the company name and product name the developer set in the project.
That is why searching for the game's title often comes up empty. The folder usually carries the studio's name, sometimes a legal entity you would never guess, and the second half may be an internal project name rather than the store title.
Windows puts these folders in AppData\LocalLow, macOS in Application Support, and Linux under a unity3d directory in your config folder. The pattern is the same on each: company name first, product name second.
Where Unity stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\LocalLow\[CompanyName]\[ProductName]
This is Unity's documented path for the Windows player and the editor, resolved through the FOLDERID_LocalAppDataLow known folder, which is why it lands in LocalLow rather than Local or Roaming. The folder is hidden, so type %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow into the Explorer address bar and look for the studio's name rather than the game's.
~/Library/Application Support/[CompanyName]/[ProductName]
Unity documents this layout for the macOS editor. A shipped player build defaults to ~/Library/Application Support/unity.[CompanyName].[ProductName] and falls back to the plain company and product folders if they already exist, so check both. Finder hides Library, so use Go > Go to Folder.
~/.config/unity3d/[CompanyName]/[ProductName]
Unity's docs give $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/unity3d/Company/ProjectName, and $XDG_CONFIG_HOME defaults to ~/.config, so this is where it lands for most people. Setting XDG_CONFIG_HOME to something else moves it, and the folder is hidden, so show hidden files in your file manager.
Frequently asked questions
where are unity game saves located on pc
Usually C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\LocalLow\[CompanyName]\[ProductName]. Open %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow and search for the studio's name, since the folder is built from the developer's company name rather than the title you bought.
why can't i find my game in the appdata locallow folder
The folder name comes from the company and product names in Unity's project settings, which are often the studio's legal entity or an internal codename. Search for the developer's name spelled exactly as they spell it, including any Ltd or GmbH suffix, and try part of the title as well.
do all unity games save to the same place
No, this is only Unity's default. Developers can write saves to a different folder in code, or use Steam cloud, their own servers or the platform's storage instead. If LocalLow has nothing for the game, look for a saves folder beside the game's executable or check the studio's support pages.
