Where Does Upscayl Store Models and Output?

Upscayl's bundled model resources, custom models folder you pick, and output path choice.

Last updated

Upscayl ships bundled NCNN models inside its install resources and separately supports a custom models folder you create anywhere. The custom path is registered under Settings with Add Custom Models, then models appear by filename in the picker.

Output has no fixed folder. You choose the destination on each upscale, which is why old results scatter across Downloads, Temp and project folders unless you standardize.

Where Upscayl stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files\Upscayl\resources\models

Bundled models near the install resources. Custom .bin plus .param pairs live in a folder you create and select via Settings > Add Custom Models. Output is chosen per upscale.

Linux
/opt/Upscayl/resources/models

Bundled models for typical installs. Custom models work the same file picker flow. Flatpak layouts differ, so check the app resources path if this misses.

macOS
/Applications/Upscayl.app/Contents/Resources/models

Bundled models inside the app bundle. Prefer a custom models folder outside Applications for your own NCNN files so updates never touch them. Exact bundle path may vary by release.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add custom models to Upscayl?

Create a models folder with .bin plus .param pairs, open Settings, use Add Custom Models to select it, then pick the model by filename on the Upscayl tab.

Where did my upscaled image go?

Wherever you pointed output on that run. There is no global output folder, so recheck the save dialog path or standardize on one folder per project.
