Where Does Viber Store Downloads and History?
Viber's download folder defaults on desktop, the .ViberPC database, and media settings.
Last updated
Viber on desktop syncs to the phone account and stores history locally in a .ViberPC folder with SQLite databases per number. Transferred files default to a ViberDownloads folder you can relocate.
The phone remains the source of truth for activation. Desktop must link to an existing mobile account, so a lost phone means reactivation before history resyncs.
Where Viber stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\ViberDownloads
Default media landing zone. Change under profile image > Settings > Media > download location. History itself lives in the desktop app data tree, not here.
~/Documents/ViberDownloads
Same default. History and prefs in ~/.ViberPC/[phone-number]/viber.db as SQLite. DownloadFolder in the Settings table controls the destination. Back up .ViberPC before editing the DB.
Frequently asked questions
How do I change the Viber download folder?
On Windows use Settings > Media and pick the new location. On Linux edit DownloadFolder in ~/.ViberPC/[number]/viber.db or symlink the folder, with Viber closed.
Can I read old files after moving the download folder?
Only if message paths update too. The DB stores PayloadPath per message, so bulk update or symlink the old path, or Viber loses the link to earlier files.
