Where Does Vimcal Store Local Data?
Vimcal desktop apps cache calendars and preferences in per-OS Electron folders, while events sync from connected accounts.
Last updated
Vimcal follows the Electron layout on desktop: a Vimcal folder in the OS app-data root with cache, local storage, IndexedDB, and preferences. Your actual events live in Google Calendar or Outlook and sync down.
That makes local data a troubleshooting lever, not a backup. Wipe it freely when the UI wedges, and set up fresh machines with a login rather than a folder copy. Timezone glitches especially benefit from a clean resync.
Where Vimcal stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Vimcal
Electron cache, storage, and preferences. Events sync from connected accounts, so this folder is safe to clear when the app misbehaves.
~/Library/Application Support/Vimcal
Same role as Windows. If the folder name differs slightly by release, search Application Support for Vimcal with the app quit.
Frequently asked questions
How do I reset a glitchy Vimcal install?
Quit Vimcal, clear the data folder for your OS, and sign in again. Calendars refill from Google or Outlook; local-only drafts may not return.
Does clearing Vimcal data delete my events?
No. Clearing local data drops cache and session files only. Events live in your connected calendar accounts and reappear after login.
