Where Does HakuNeko Store Data and Cache?

HakuNeko splits userdata from web-app cache per OS with portable variants. Tables and download notes.

Last updated

HakuNeko keeps two trees per platform: userdata for settings, bookmarks and lists, plus cache for the hosted web app with its thousand-plus connector files. Portable builds nest both beside the executable instead of the OS paths.

Downloads land wherever settings point, not in either tree by default. Connectors update through the cache tree, which also explains the fix for stale sources: delete cache to force a fresh fetch. The version file inside cache names the fetched build.

Where HakuNeko stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\hakuneko-desktop

Settings, bookmarks and lists with hakuneko-prefixed files. Web cache in %LOCALAPPDATA%\hakuneko-desktop\cache. Portable builds use userdata and cache folders beside the exe instead.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/hakuneko-desktop

Same userdata role as Windows. Web cache under ~/Library/Caches/hakuneko-desktop. Downloads follow the in-app folder choice rather than either tree.

Linux
~/.config/hakuneko-desktop

Same userdata layout under XDG config home. Web cache at ~/.cache/hakuneko-desktop. Official docs tabulate all three platforms; match your install type before scripting.

Frequently asked questions

How do I fix broken HakuNeko connectors?

Delete the cache folder for your OS with the app closed and relaunch. Fresh connectors fetch on start, with the version file confirming the build. Userdata stays untouched so lists and settings survive.

Where are HakuNeko downloads saved?

In the folder chosen in settings, not in userdata or cache by default. Change it per library needs. Connector files never mingle with chapter downloads.

Does the portable build use the same paths?

No. Portable keeps userdata and cache folders next to the executable on every OS. Copying that folder moves the whole setup. Installed builds ignore the portable trees entirely.
