Where Does VirtualDJ Store Its Database?

VirtualDJ home folder old versus new on desktop, and the settings file to leave behind on moves.

Last updated

VirtualDJ moved home in 2023: fresh installs use %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualDJ on Windows and ~/Library/Application Support/VirtualDJ on Mac, while upgraded installs keep the legacy Documents\VirtualDJ. Both trees hold database.xml (track data, BPM, hot cues), Playlists, Folders and History.

Both folders can coexist after upgrades with only the newer read, so resolve ambiguity in app Settings via the corner icon that opens the live home. Migrate by copying everything except settings.xml (recreate prefs by hand; stale copies break first launches). External drives carry their own VirtualDJ database folders automatically.

Where VirtualDJ stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualDJ\

Fresh installs (database.xml, settings.xml, Playlists, Folders, History). Legacy upgrades keep Documents\VirtualDJ instead; both may exist with only the newer live. License follows account login, not files.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/VirtualDJ/

Fresh installs (same interior). Legacy upgrades keep ~/Documents/VirtualDJ. App Store sandbox container path unverified. Resolve the live home via in app Settings corner icon.
