Where Does VN Store Drafts and Project Files?

VN auto-saves drafts inside the app and shares portable project files for moving edits between devices.

Last updated

VN auto-saves as you edit, so drafts accumulate on the home page without any save button. Everything lives in the app's private storage until you export video or share a project. Deleting the app deletes the drafts with it.

Moving edits between devices is VN's strong suit. Project Sharing exports a portable VN project file you send to the other device and open in VN there, across iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows. Manage, rename, duplicate, and trash projects from the home page; the file only exists once you share it out.

Where VN Video Editor stores this, by platform

Android
In-app home page (drafts); shared VN project files wherever saved

Auto-save keeps every operation step with full undo. Use Share Project to create a portable file for transfer or backup. Exports render to the gallery up to 4K 60fps. Free plans can share one project per day.

iOS
In-app home page (drafts); AirDrop or iCloud project files

Same auto-save behavior. Hand projects to Mac or other devices through AirDrop or iCloud, then open the file in VN and tap Open Project. Passwords and expiration dates can protect shared drafts.

Frequently asked questions

How do I transfer a VN project to another device?

On the home page choose Share Project on the draft, send the resulting file to the other device, open it in VN there, and tap Open Project. It works across mobile and desktop. Without a Pro plan this works once per day.

Where are VN drafts saved?

Inside the app on its home page, auto-saved as you work. There is no browsable folder. Back up by sharing project files out, and export finished videos to the gallery so at least the render survives an uninstall.
