Where Does VTube Studio Store Models and Config?
Where VTube Studio keeps Live2D models, .vtube.json setups and global config.
Last updated
VTube Studio stores each model as a folder inside Live2DModels, and every tweak you make lands instantly in a .vtube.json next to the art files. That JSON is human readable and holds hotkeys, parameters and tracking settings. Global options sit one level up in Config\vts_config.json.
Steam paths differ by OS but keep the same tail. Drop a new model folder into Live2DModels and restart: the app detects it and generates the .vtube.json on first load.
Where VTube Studio stores this, by platform
<Steam>\steamapps\common\VTube Studio\VTube Studio_Data\StreamingAssets\Live2DModels\
Steam build layout. Each model folder holds art plus its .vtube.json. Global settings live in Config\vts_config.json next door. Backups sit in a Backups folder beside Live2DModels. Replace <Steam> with your Steam library path.
VTube Studio.app/Contents/Resources/Data/StreamingAssets/Live2DModels/
Same tail under the app bundle. Use the in-app button to open the folder instead of digging through the bundle by hand. Model folders and .vtube.json files transfer directly from Windows.
/Android/data/com.denchi.vtubestudio/files/Live2DModels/
File based access on Android. Copy model folders here from a PC over USB, then restart the app so it picks them up and writes fresh .vtube.json files.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move my models to a new PC?
Copy the whole Live2DModels folder. Every model keeps its art plus a .vtube.json with hotkeys, parameters and art mesh bindings. The global vts_config.json next to it holds app wide options.
I broke a model setup. Is there an autosave?
Check the Backups folder next to Live2DModels. VTube Studio writes safety copies of the loaded model every few minutes. Restore by copying the backup over the model folder while the app is closed.
