Where Does XYplorer Store Settings?
XYplorer settings folder for installed and portable use, and the Startup.ini entry that decides between them.
Last updated
XYplorer is portable by design and keeps the registry untouched. Installed copies store settings in Roaming AppData, while no-install copies keep everything beside the executable on a USB stick or any folder. The Startup.ini file in the application folder declares which mode you are in.
That dual layout explains most lost settings reports. The 64-bit build defaults to an XYplorer64 data folder, separate from the 32-bit XYplorer folder, so upgrading bitness looks like a settings wipe until you copy the old folder over. Check the [Appdata] Path entry in Startup.ini when in doubt.
Where XYplorer stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\XYplorer
64-bit builds use %APPDATA%\XYplorer64 unless Startup.ini says otherwise. Portable mode ignores both and stores data next to XYplorer.exe. Inside the app, Go and then Go to Application Data Folder opens the effective folder.
Frequently asked questions
how do i migrate xyplorer to a new computer
Copy the application folder and the application data folder to matching spots on the new PC. That pair carries the license, catalog, tags and scripts with no export step needed.
how do i reset xyplorer settings without reinstalling
Back up the data folder, then delete XYplorer.ini from it and relaunch. The app recreates a default ini, which is faster than reinstalling when only the settings are broken.
