Where Does BetterJoy Store Settings?

Where BetterJoy keeps settings and controller mappings on Windows.

Last updated

BetterJoy is portable: settings and mappings live next to the exe, including the exe config with rumble, gyro and deadzone keys plus mapping profiles. There is no AppData copy.

That simplicity has one trap. The app resolves settings relative to its working directory, so odd launchers break it. Keep one home folder, launch from there, and back up the folder before updates.

Where BetterJoy stores this, by platform

Windows
<BetterJoy folder>\BetterJoyForCemu.exe.config

Portable home with BetterJoyForCemu.exe.config, BetterJoy.ini and mapping profiles. Edit the config while closed. Launch from this folder so settings resolve correctly.

Frequently asked questions

BetterJoy forgot my settings after launching from Search. Why?

Always launch from its own folder or a shortcut with the right working directory. Search and launcher tools can set the working directory to System32, and then settings lookups miss the program folder entirely.

How do I update BetterJoy without losing mappings?

Back up BetterJoy.ini plus mapping profiles, update by replacing only exe and dll files, then reload config. Overwriting the whole folder with a clean zip wipes calibration and stick tweaks.
