Where Does Canary Mail Store Data?

Canary keeps a local CanaryDB on Mac with mail on the provider. The container path plus keys story.

Last updated

Canary Mail keeps mail itself on your provider and caches app data locally in ~/Library/Containers/io.canarymail.mac/Data/Library/Application Support/CanaryDB on macOS. Templates and signatures live there, so wiping it resets local state without touching the mailbox.

Encryption keys in manual PGP mode stay in that encrypted local database. Auto mode on Apple devices instead syncs private keys through your own iCloud Keychain. Credentials sit in the system Keychain either way. Crash on launch fixes start with clearing CanaryDB per the official guide.

Where Canary Mail stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Containers/io.canarymail.mac/Data/Library/Application Support/CanaryDB

Local cache: templates, signatures, index. Mail reloads from the provider after a wipe. Keys: manual mode local, auto mode iCloud Keychain. Quit first.
