Where Does Dev Home Store Data and Logs?
Where Microsoft Dev Home keeps app data, settings and setup logs on Windows 11, and what survives it.
Last updated
Dev Home keeps state in its MSIX package tree under LocalAppData on Windows 11. App files, settings hives, caches and temp state each own a sibling folder there. Setup flow logs and extension logs nest deeper for troubleshooting.
The app is discontinued, which makes its folders read only archaeology for most readers. Settings live in a binary hive rather than text, so direct edits are impractical. Copy the LocalState tree for records and rely on exported setup scripts going forward. Widget layouts reference the settings hive, so copy LocalState together.

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.DevHome_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState
Package tree with app files, settings hive, caches and temp state. Setup logs nest under TempState. Extensions keep sibling package trees. Discontinued in 2025.
Frequently asked questions
Where are Dev Home setup and extension logs?
Open the TempState setup flow folder under the package tree for machine configuration logs. Extension logs sit in sibling package trees for GitHub and Azure. The settings hive needs registry style tools to read, so logs answer most questions first.
Is Dev Home still supported?
No. Microsoft discontinued Dev Home in mid 2025 and points users at WinGet configuration and Dev Drive workflows instead. Export machine setup scripts before uninstalling. The package folders remain until removed by hand.
