Where Does Hamachi Store Config and Identity?

Where LogMeIn Hamachi keeps engine config, identity and logs.

Last updated

Hamachi splits into the tunneling engine service and the hamachi-2-ui interface, both installed under Program Files (x86)\LogMeIn Hamachi. Engine identity and state live in the service configuration directory (LocalService AppData on modern Windows, /var/lib/logmein-hamachi on Linux).

The official guide opens that folder from System, Preferences, Disk Locations. Stop the tunneling engine service before copying files in or out. UI level caches under your own AppData are disposable by comparison.

Where Hamachi stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\LogMeIn Hamachi\

Install root with hamachi-2.exe engine and hamachi-2-ui interface. Engine identity lives in the service config dir (open it from System, Preferences). Stop the tunneling engine before restoring backups.

Linux
/var/lib/logmein-hamachi/

Engine config and identity files. Back up the folder contents to migrate a client to another system. Service runs as its own user, so fix ownership after restoring.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Hamachi to a new PC without losing my identity?

Back up the service configuration directory from System, Preferences, Disk Locations with the engine stopped, then restore those files on the new install before going online. The client keeps its original identity instead of registering as a new machine.

Hamachi forgets its network after every reboot. Why?

Recreate the LocalService AppData LogMeIn Hamachi path and restart the tunneling engine. Missing service folders after botched installs cause exactly this symptom, and the manual folder fix is documented in support threads.
