Where Does HMCL Store Accounts and Data?
HMCL keeps accounts and settings in its own folder with game versions in a .minecraft directory.
Last updated
Hello Minecraft Launcher stores accounts, Java paths, and preferences in its own data folder, while game versions, worlds, and mods live in a .minecraft directory.
Two locations mean half-backups. The config alone restores logins but no worlds; the game folder alone restores worlds but no accounts. Copy both for migration. If the layout differs by version, check the launcher settings for the active game directory first.
Where HMCL stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\.hmcl (accounts and settings)
Accounts, Java paths, and preferences. Copy alongside the game directory for migration; confirm the active paths in settings if layouts differ.
%APPDATA%\.minecraft
Versions, worlds, mods, and resource packs. The big half of any backup; copy with the launcher closed.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move everything to a new PC?
Copy both the HMCL folder and the game directory with the launcher closed. Accounts travel in the config; worlds and mods travel in the game dir.
