Where Does Homepage Dashboard Store Config?

Where the Homepage dashboard reads its YAML configs and stores icons, logs, and cache in Docker.

Last updated

Homepage keeps its entire state in one config folder: YAML files for bookmarks, services, and widgets, plus icons, logs, and cache beside them. Docker mounts it at /app/config; bare installs use a config dir under the app.

The YAML files are the backup. Everything else regenerates or re downloads, but a lost services.yaml means rebuilding every link by hand. Keep the folder in git (minus API keys) and container recreates become non events. The logs subfolder records restarts, which helps when the dashboard loads blank.

Where Homepage stores this, by platform

Linux
/app/config (Docker volume)

bookmarks.yaml, services.yaml, widgets.yaml, settings.yaml, plus icons/ and logs/. Bind this tree to a host folder. Secrets in YAML should move to docker secrets or env files instead.

Frequently asked questions

where are homepage dashboard config files

In bookmarks.yaml, services.yaml, and widgets.yaml inside the config folder (/app/config in Docker). Each file is plain YAML, so a typo breaks that section quietly. Validate indentation after edits and restart the container.

where do homepage custom icons go

In the icons/ and images/ folders beside the YAML files. Reference them by filename in services.yaml. The built in icon API needs no local files, but custom logos must live here or they 404 after a move.

does homepage need a persistent volume

Yes. Map /app/config to a persistent volume or every recreate wipes dashboards and settings. The image carries only defaults. Logs and cache regenerate, so the YAML files are the critical backup.
