Where Does Hoopla Store Downloads?

Hoopla downloads live inside the mobile app only, fetched per title from your Borrowed list for offline playback.

Last updated

Hoopla lets you temporarily download borrowed movies, audiobooks, music, and ebooks to your phone or tablet for offline use. Each title downloads from its Borrowed entry through a cloud icon, and plays only inside the app. Smart TVs and browsers stream only.

Borrows are loans, not purchases. They expire on schedule and vanish with the app if you uninstall. Fully finish each download on WiFi before going offline, since a half fetched title will not play on the plane.

Where Hoopla stores this, by platform

Android
In-app: Borrowed list > cloud icon (app-private storage)

Movies, audiobooks, music, and ebooks download per title for offline playback. No user browsable folder. Borrow limits follow your library policy, and expired loans disappear from the device.

iOS
In-app: Borrowed list > cloud icon (app-private storage)

Same in-app storage as Android. Offloading the app to save space removes downloads while keeping the borrow record. Re-download after reinstalling as long as the loan is still active.

Frequently asked questions

Can I watch Hoopla downloads on my TV?

Downloads play on the phone or tablet that fetched them. TVs, Roku, Fire TV, and Apple TV stream through the Hoopla app instead. For offline viewing away from home, watch on the mobile device itself.

My Hoopla download will not play offline. Why?

It likely never finished. Open the Borrowed entry on WiFi and wait for the cloud icon to confirm completion before leaving. Partial downloads do not play, and expired loans stop working even if the files linger.
