Where Does Insync Store Config and Logs?

Insync keeps settings.db and logs in a per-OS config folder, with the sync Base Folder chosen at setup.

Last updated

Insync separates its own bookkeeping from your synced files. Settings, logs and databases live in a per-OS config folder: settings.db for accounts and rules, logs.db plus out.txt for troubleshooting, live and data trees beneath. That folder is the one support asks for when syncing breaks.

Your actual files live somewhere else entirely. The sync root is called the Base Folder, suggested at setup and movable per account, with optional custom synced folders anywhere. Moving machines without re-syncing means copying both the config folder and the Base Folder together.

Where Insync stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Insync

Holds settings.db, logs.db, out.txt plus live, data and dbs trees. The Base Folder with synced files defaults near %USERPROFILE%\Insync and moves from the app. Copy config and Base Folder as a pair for migrations.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Insync

Same interior layout as Windows. Reveal Library with Go to Folder in Finder. Check the Base Folder path in the app before assuming a default, since setup lets it move.

Linux
~/.config/Insync

Same layout on Linux. One 3.7.x release briefly lowercased the folder, fixed in the next point release, so check both casings when an old install looks empty.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Insync sync folder?

Wherever setup put the Base Folder, often a folder named Insync in home. Open the app to read or move the current path per account. The config folder above never holds synced files, only databases and logs.

How do I move Insync to a new computer without re-syncing?

Install Insync, copy the config folder and the Base Folder to matching paths, then launch and let it reconcile. The official guide covers the pairing order. Skipping the config copy forces a full re-download.

Which Insync files do support want for broken sync?

The logs.db and out.txt inside the config folder, plus a description of the stuck files. Copy them with Insync running normally. Settings.db helps too when accounts fail to list.
