Where Does JoyToKey Store Config and Profiles?
Where JoyToKey keeps JoyToKey.ini and per-game button profiles on Windows.
Last updated
JoyToKey is portable by design. The folder holding JoyToKey.exe holds everything: JoyToKey.ini for global options and one .cfg file per button profile. There is no installer state scattered elsewhere.
That simplicity is also the gotcha. Unzipping a second copy somewhere splits your profiles across two folders. Pick one home for the exe and stick with it, then back up the folder to keep years of per-game mappings safe.
Where JoyToKey stores this, by platform
<JoyToKey folder>\JoyToKey.ini
Portable folder. JoyToKey.ini plus <profile>.cfg files live beside the exe. Run from a user-writable path such as Documents to avoid elevation prompts. Associate profiles with game exes under Preferences for auto switching.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move JoyToKey to a new PC?
Nothing is in AppData or the registry. Copy the JoyToKey folder as is. Your .cfg profiles and JoyToKey.ini travel with the exe, which makes it one of the simplest migrations around.
Why does my profile not switch per game?
You picked Associate profiles with applications. Open Settings, Preferences and check the profile switching tab. Each exe name maps to one .cfg, and a typo in the exe name silently breaks the match.
