Where Does LibreSprite Store Settings and Sprites?
LibreSprite keeps preferences in the standard config dir while sprites live in files you save.
Last updated
LibreSprite stores preferences, keybinds, and recent files in the standard config directory per platform. Sprites themselves live in files you save, exactly like any desktop art app.
That split decides the backup story. Settings migrate by copying the config folder; artwork migrates by saving files. Reinstalling loses preferences but never saved sprites. Keep project files with your art and the config copy for convenience.
Where LibreSprite stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\LibreSprite\user.ini
Preferences and recent files. Sprites save wherever you choose; only settings live here. Copy for migration, reset by deleting.
~/.config/libresprite/user.ini
Same split under the XDG config home. Artwork files live wherever saved; this folder holds preferences only. If this folder is absent, check for an Aseprite-named sibling folder or a portable install keeping settings beside the executable.
Frequently asked questions
How do I keep a finished sprite?
Save the sprite as ASE or another format through File Save. The open canvas is memory only until saved, so unsaved work dies with the app.
