Where Does Macrium Reflect Store Backups and Definitions?
Where Macrium Reflect keeps backup definitions, image files and logs on Windows, and what to copy before reinstalling.
Last updated
Macrium Reflect splits its files three ways. Definitions are small XML files in your Documents folder. Logs are HTML files under ProgramData. Images themselves land wherever you pointed the backup wizard.
There is no fixed default for images, which confuses first time restores. The wizard remembers your last destination but never forces one. Note the destination the day you create the job, or check the definition XML later. XML definitions are tiny and portable, while images are large and tied to their target drive layout.
Where Macrium Reflect stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Reflect
Default home for reusable backup definition XML files. Image destinations (.mrimg, .mrbak) are user chosen per job. Per job HTML logs sit in C:\ProgramData\Macrium\Reflect.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Macrium definitions to a new PC?
Copy the XML files from Documents Reflect to the same folder on the new machine, then open them from the Backup Definition Files tab. Images themselves travel separately. Definitions without their target drives still import, they just need path fixes.
Where do I find details for a failed Macrium backup?
Open the matching HTML log in ProgramData Macrium Reflect. Each job writes its own dated file with a VSS section inside. The interface Logs tab opens the same files, so use whichever is faster.
