Where Does NextPVR Store Config and Recordings Data?

NextPVR data folder with config.xml and npvr.db3 on Windows and Linux, plus logs and recording scripts.

Last updated

NextPVR keeps everything server side in one data folder: config.xml for settings and npvr.db3, a SQLite database, for devices, guide data and schedules. Logs and user scripts sit in subfolders beside them. The program folder holds binaries only, so reinstalls never touch your setup.

Paths differ by install method. Windows uses a Public user data folder, Linux deb installs use /var/opt/nextpvr, and Docker maps whatever you mount as /config. Scripts go in a scripts subfolder as .bat on Windows or .sh on Linux.

Where NextPVR stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data

Holds config.xml, npvr.db3, logs and scripts subfolders. Legacy installs may still use C:\Users\Public\NPVR without the -data suffix. Deleting the two main files resets the server to defaults on next start.

Linux
/var/opt/nextpvr

Data files, channel art and logs for deb based installs. Binaries live separately under /opt/nextpvr/system. Docker users substitute their mapped /config volume for this path.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reset NextPVR to defaults?

Delete npvr.db3 and config.xml from the data folder and restart the server. Both regenerate with defaults, which is the documented nuclear reset when the web app misbehaves.

Which files actually hold my channels and recordings schedule?

In the data folder: config.xml for settings, npvr.db3 (SQLite) for devices, EPG and recordings. Back up both before upgrades, since everything the web UI knows lives in that pair.

Where are my recorded TV files?

Recordings go wherever the recording directories point, not in the data folder. The database only tracks them. Check Settings, Recordings in the web app for the real media paths.
