Where Does Pinnacle Studio Save Projects?

Pinnacle Studio saves edits as .axp project files defaulting to Documents\Pinnacle Studio\My Projects, with portable .axx packages and autosaves set in Storage Locations.

Last updated

Pinnacle projects are .axp files that reference your media instead of containing it. The default neighborhood is My Projects inside Documents Pinnacle Studio. Version upgrades convert older projects and leave a BACKUP copy beside the original for safety.

Two companion formats matter. The .axx package bundles everything into one portable file for archiving or transfer. Autosaves write separate timed copies to a path you set under Storage Locations. Knowing which of the three you need decides where to look.

Where Pinnacle Studio stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Pinnacle Studio\My Projects

Default for .axp projects and version BACKUP copies. Media stays in place and is referenced by path. Use .axx packages for moves and archives. Autosave path is set separately in Storage Locations.

Frequently asked questions

Where are Pinnacle Studio autosaves?

Check the Automatically Save Project path in Storage Locations for timestamped copies. Autosaves live apart from your master file and only exist when the project changed since the last manual save. Open the newest one, then Save As right away.

How do I move a project to another computer?

Use File Save As to make an .axx project package, which bundles media with the edit into one file. Plain .axp files store locations of media, not the media itself, so moving folders breaks them. Packages are the transfer format.
