Where Does Proton Drive Store Files on Your Computer?

Proton Drive sync view, app data and logs on Windows and Mac, with no Linux client in the picture.

Last updated

Proton Drive shows synced files in place rather than in a classic folder: Quick access in File Explorer on Windows, Locations in Finder on Mac, both with cloud only versus available offline badges. The local root is chosen at setup and changeable in Settings.

Behind the scenes, Windows keeps app data and officially documented logs under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Proton\ProtonDrive. On Mac the File Provider container is macOS managed with no published fixed path, so use the Settings gear to reveal logs. There is no Linux desktop client: web app plus a separate CLI only.

Where Proton Drive stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Proton\ProtonDrive\

App data and sync state, with officially documented logs in the Logs subfolder. The visible sync root (Quick access > Proton Drive) is chosen at setup and changeable in Settings.

macOS
~/Library/CloudStorage/

The File Provider container underneath is macOS managed with no published fixed path, so treat this parent as a starting point and use the Settings gear to reveal logs and the exact folder. No Linux desktop client exists.

Frequently asked questions

Are my Proton Drive files actually on my disk or only in the cloud?

Check the badges: cloud only icons mean placeholder, available offline means local. macOS may reclaim local copies when storage runs low unless marked offline, and Windows Optimize storage behaves similarly.

How do I find the exact Proton Drive folder on my machine?

Open Settings in the desktop app: it shows the current local root and offers a logs view. The root is user chosen, so no guide can print a path that fits every install.
