Where Does Pulsar Store Playlists and Backups?

Pulsar zips playlist backups as m3u files you place yourself, with legacy text files under its data folder.

Last updated

Pulsar backs up playlists as standard m3u files, which keeps them readable everywhere. On modern Android the backup dialog packages selected playlists into one zip that you save wherever you choose. Copy those m3u files to a new phone and the system picks them up automatically.

Older Android kept plain text path lists under Pulsar's data folder instead. Either generation restores the same way: put the files where the app scans and trigger restore from the playlists toolbar. Music files themselves never ride along, so move those separately.

Android 11 and up: user placed zip of m3u files from the playlists toolbar backup. Android 10 and below: text files in /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.rhmsoft.pulsar[.pro]/files/playlists. Unzip m3u files into Music/pulsar/playlists for manual restore.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move Pulsar playlists to a new phone?

Back up from the playlists toolbar to a zip, copy it over with your music files, and let the system import the m3u files. If auto import misses them, unzip into Music/pulsar/playlists and hit restore in the app.

Do Pulsar backups include my music files?

No, only playlist definitions with song paths. Copy the audio separately and keep folder structures similar so paths still resolve. Smart playlists rebuild from rules rather than files.
