Where Does QCAD Store Settings and Scripts?
Where QCAD keeps its settings file, scripts and libraries on Windows, Mac and Linux, and how to reset.
Last updated
QCAD keeps preferences in a Qt settings file whose name and extension change per OS. Windows uses an ini under Roaming. Linux uses a conf under the user config home. Mac follows the same config home pattern.
Scripts, libraries and fonts ship in the install tree beside the binary, with user overrides in the config tree. A portable flag can redirect the whole setup into one folder. Resetting means deleting the settings file while drawings stay exactly where they were. Restart QCAD after deleting settings to load fresh defaults.
Where QCAD stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\QCAD\QCAD3.ini
Qt settings file with prefs, layout and defaults. Delete it to reset while drawings stay put. Scripts ship in the install tree beside the binary.
~/.config/QCAD/QCAD3.ini
Same settings under the user config home. Reach it through Go to Folder in Finder. Scripts live inside the app bundle resources.
~/.config/QCAD/QCAD3.conf
Same settings with a conf extension under XDG config. Library cache files sit beside it. Delete the conf to reset to defaults.
Frequently asked questions
How do I fully reset QCAD without reinstalling?
Delete the settings file for your OS from this post and restart. QCAD rebuilds defaults on next launch. Drawings stay untouched since they live wherever you saved them. Keep a copy first when custom shortcuts matter.
Where do QCAD add-on scripts go?
Install them into the scripts tree inside the QCAD install folder or the user config tree, depending on scope. Install folder scripts apply machine wide while user scripts roam with the profile. Restart QCAD to load new actions.
