Where Does QMapShack Store Workspace and Config?

Where QMapShack keeps its workspace database and config on Windows, Mac and Linux, and how to recover from a crash.

Last updated

QMapShack centers on one workspace database file. It records which maps and tracks are open and how the views are arranged. Config lives separately in the registry or an ini file depending on platform.

Actual map data stays outside the database in folders you chose. That split makes backups simple: the database is small and portable, while maps are large and referenced by path. Tile cache has its own default that fills quietly over time. Moving machines means copying the small database plus config, then repointing map paths, rather than hauling gigabytes of tiles along.

Where QMapShack stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\[Username]\.config\QLandkarte\workspace.db

Live workspace database. Config sits in the registry under QLandkarte QMapShack unless a custom ini is used. Tile cache defaults to a .QMapShack folder in the profile.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/QLandkarte/QMapShack/workspace.db

Same workspace database under Application Support. Config is a plist in Preferences. Pass the log flag to write diagnostics under Library Logs.

Linux
~/.config/QLandkarte/workspace.db

Same workspace database under XDG config. Plain config file sits beside it as QMapShack.conf. Logs go to tmp when logging is enabled.

Frequently asked questions

QMapShack will not start after a crash. How do I recover?

Kill the process, move workspace.db aside, then start with a fresh config to test. If it launches, the old workspace was corrupt. Maps themselves are safe since they live in user chosen folders outside the database.

What do I copy to move QMapShack to a new computer?

Maps, DEM files and GPX data stay where you put them. Only the layout database and the config file move automatically. Set map paths under View, Setup Workspace after moving machines, then copy workspace.db across.
